Coastal Blue Meets Custom Craft: A Custom Kitchen Build in Surf City, NC

For this custom new build in Surf City, NC, our design team set out to create a kitchen that felt as coastal without leaning on cliché. The result is an open-concept space anchored by a two-tone palette of Waypoint Cabinetry, finished in Painted Linen on the perimeter and Painted Mist on the island and specialty pieces, including a statement hood that draws the eye the moment you walk in.

We carried that sense of intention into every detail. A vertically-stacked Emser picket tile backsplash runs the full height of the cooking wall, its glossy finish and slate grey grout adding subtle texture and drawing the eye upward toward the vaulted, wood-planked ceiling detail above the range. Matte black hardware from Jeffrey Alexander's Alvar collection grounds the palette, while a Ruvati farmhouse sink anchors the island in quiet, functional elegance.

Function was just as important as form. Tucked behind a set of custom hidden pantry doors — built by our trusted local woodworker — is a stunning walk-in working pantry complete with a second oven and its own farm sink, giving the homeowners a true prep kitchen out of sight from the main living space. A dedicated coffee and wine bar rounds out the open-concept layout, making the kitchen as ready for entertaining as it is for everyday life. The same considered palette and cabinetry details carry through into the home's master bath, tying the design together from room to room.
